After winning the ACSA championships in March, our Holy Martyrs Men’s team started its preparations for the ACYOA Seniors Sports Weekend that was held in Washington, D.C. during Memorial Day weekend. A contingent of 14 young men were slated to play Men’s basketball and Coed volleyball during the Saturday-Sunday tournament.

The last Washington tournament was held five years earlier, and seven Holy Martyrs players from that team returned in 2008. Pictured are Zack Armen, Aret Akbork, Haig Ardzivian, Dan Antreasyan, Steve Dinelaris, Nareg Halajian and Roy Ravul. They were joined by an additional seven first- and second-year players.  After losing in the Finals last year, they were ready to reclaim the title that they previously held for a number of years.

This spring, our Holy Martyrs Juniors also have been active. During spring indoor practice, new players—ages 8, 12, and 14—have been brought into the gym.  From this group, a team will be chosen to represent the Holy Martyrs Juniors in the 2008–2009 ACSA season.  Any parent or youngster interested in the fall basketball program is asked to please contact the church office at this time.
