On October 26, the ACSA started its 42nd season in Queens with four opening-round games. Our Holy Martyrs Girls beat the St. Leon’s Girls, the 2008 ACSA champions.  Our Men’s #1 team, who is the reigning 2008 ACSA Men’s Division champion, lost by single digits to the St. Leon’s Men. Our younger Juniors, playing mostly with 12-year-olds against the older St. Sarkis Juniors, also lost their game.

Games continued on November 2 when our Seniors beat the St. Sarkis Seniors handily by double digits.  Anthony Antreasyan and Mark Brewster led the starters and the bench to victory. A large and most orderly crowd was in attendance. This game was followed by our newly organized HM Men’s #2 team playing against the St. Sarkis Men.

The Men’s game was very close, with the lead changing hands through the afternoon.  In the last minute, St. Sarkis increased its four-point lead and won the game.  At game’s end, players from both teams shook hands with one another. It made for a very nice ending to a well-played and well-officiated contest.
Our nine-man HM Men’s #2 team is comprised mainly of 19- and 20-year olds who have completed their eligibility on the Seniors team.  It is buttressed by our past champion team veterans, Paul Karekinian, Greg Boudakian and player coach Chris Papazian, who now have returned, accepting their roles on the #2 Men’s team with great humility and pleasure.
