CHURCH ACTIVITIES
Appropriate Summer Attire for Church Friday, June 01, 2007

Summer is almost here and because it’s going to be hot, everybody will be wearing comfortable summer clothing.  We will go to the beach, to picnics, to parks, to shopping, wearing shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, light blouses, etc…. after all, it’s summer and we have to dress according to the season.

How about if on a Sunday morning we decide to go to church…can we put on the same kind of clothing?  God doesn’t discriminate if you have on a pair of shorts or a pair of jeans, or a mini skirt or a midi skirt!! As long as you are a good Christian, right?

Well, think about this: how about if during this hot summer day we were invited to a meeting or a dinner with the Mayor, or the Governor, or even the President?  Oh Boy! We would start shopping right away for the proper attire, because we’ll be in the presence of a dignitary.  We’d try to buy something decent for this most important occasion, something suitable and proper.

How about if, on Sunday morning we are going to be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, how should we clothe ourselves?  After all, we are going to break bread with Him as He said two thousand years ago: “Do this in remembrance of me” and we are going to receive His Body while praying and venerating Him.

Therefore, my dear friends, we should be very careful how we dress on Sunday mornings to come to church; even if it’s extremely hot outside we should have decent attire on.  Anywhere in the church, in the sanctuary or at different areas we should always act and be dressed properly.  Yes, there is no law or canon about this, but it is plain Christian understanding and behavior.  We should always be dressed decently and properly when we go to church on Sundays.

I am aware that most of you know this and act accordingly, but if there are some of us who don’t know, or think otherwise, or have forgotten, let this be a gentle reminder.

            May God bless you all.
