Joint Meeting
On October 30, following the celebration of Divine Liturgy, a Pontifical Prayer was offered in the St. Vartan Cathedral of New York, for the 17th Anniversary of the Enthronement of the Catholicos of All Armenians. The services were offered under the presidency of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, who traveled to the United States to convene the Supreme Spiritual Council, which was held from October 31 to November 4. Fr. Abraham took part in the historic Divine Liturgy and attended the celebratory banquet in Kavookjian Hall in honor of His Holiness.
On October 31, under the presidency of His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Spiritual Council, the Eastern, Western, and Canadian Dioceses of the Armenian Church of North America, and the Central Committee of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), held a historical joint meeting at the Eastern Diocese headquarters in New York, NY.
The two-day meeting was convened under the theme of: “To take the Church to the nation, and reach the Armenians living in North America”. Issues discussed at the meeting included the challenges and realities of life for Armenians residing in America, pastoral service concerns of the Armenian Church in North America and Church-youth relations. Fr. Abraham was invited to participate in this special meeting as one of four parish priests on a panel to discuss their views on their education and preparedness for their pastoral life in America. The panel included priests with different educational backgrounds (St. Nersess versus Etchmiadzin-educated) and was facilitated by Dr. Varoujan Altiparmakian. Fr. Abraham also helped with synchronized translation of English-Armenian and Armenian-English during the two-day meetings with Diocesan staff member Arpi Nakashian.
