Graduation
Last Sunday, the Holy Martyrs community celebrated the graduation of four Sunday School students: Adam Anasa, Melissa Ashbahian, Gregory Manuelian and Talar Manuelian. After receiving their diplomas from Fr. Abraham in the sanctuary, a wonderful fellowship and celebratory program took place in the church auditorium. Dr. Arthur Asadorian, teacher of the graduating class, facilitated the program during which he gave loving testimony to each graduate’s personality and character. Guest speaker Fr. Mardiros Chevian addressed the graduates directly, noting that in each of them were the God-given gifts and love of generations before them, including the saints and martyrs of the church, and their own grandparents and parents. “Feel the Holy Spirit that has been planted in you,” said Fr. Mardiros. The graduates presented a Power Point of photos, essay excerpts, and reflections on their Sunday School experience. Parish Council Chair Pat Apelian expressed the pride of the church community and her own cherished memories of Sunday School. Co-Superintendent Lynn Jamie then invited each Sunday School class to come forward with their teachers to present their parting “agape” (love) gifts to the graduates. The graduates, in turn, gifted the school with a beautiful hand-drawn wall plaque of Shnorhali’s Wisdom Prayer in the hopes “that our fellow Sunday School students will learn and love the prayer…” Fr. Abraham, who has overseen a number of innovative Sunday School programs this year, concluded the program expressing his happiness in the graduates’ accomplishments and their evident faith. “This is not goodbye, but more like a ‘see you later’ because we know you will keep the church and above all Christ in your hearts. I can see that in your words and in your faces...Now you are true apostles, being sent out to share the Good News!”
