A Symposium

On September 9, representatives from ten Diocesan Armenian Schools attended a daylong symposium at the Diocesan Center to discuss new educational methods and the challenges of teaching the Armenian language in our schools. Among the educators in attendance were Elizabeth Khodabash (Principal), Maro Jamgochian and Anie Manuelian HMALS. During the symposium Gilda Buchakjian Kupelian, Diocesan Armenian Studies director, shared a survey conducted among Diocesan Armenian schools that prioritized aspects of the language to teach in single-day schools, implemented best practices, achievements, community support, and use of technology. Guest speaker Mardig Tcholakian, a Computer Science graduate of Haigazian University in Beirut, also spoke about digitizing literary resources. Fr. Daniel Findikyan, director of the Zohrab Information Center, spoke about the Zohrab Center, its digitized resources, and the extensive collection housed at the library and Maestro Khoren Mekanejian taught the teachers creative ways to teach songs. Fr. Simeon Odabashian, Diocesan Vicar, presented the educators with letters of recognition and gifts on behalf Abp.  Khajag Barsamian, Primate.
