On Saturday, October 7, HMALS held its annual "Bake Time” with students. The auditorium was transformed into a junior chef’s kitchen and the children were so excited to make cheese borek from scratch. Each student had their own dough, cheese filling and a fork to crimp the edges. Many children commented on how much this exercise reminded them of their grandmother’s kitchen. Several girls from the older grades were in charge of the egg wash before placing the boreks in the oven. While the children patiently waited for lunch to be served, Evelina and Armen Malkhasyan, along with Hagop Karamyan, sang songs. The auditorium was filled with the sweet smell of the golden brown boreks. The children enjoyed their hand made treats along with tomatoes and cucumbers. Leftovers were sent home to share with their families. HMALS would like to thank all the dedicated parents, faculty and board for a successful event!
