Yom Hashoah
Dr. Lynn Cetin, Chair of Holy Martyrs' Genocide Centennial Committee represented Fr. Abraham at an annual Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) Commemoration on Sunday morning, April 15 at the Bellerose Jewish Center. The commemoration was co-sponsored by the Bellerose Jewish Center, Lake Success Jewish Center and Temple Tikvah and included a special candle lighting for Holocaust survivors, including persecuted Christians. Dr. Cetin gave a brief message about the Armenian Genocide to the attendees and spoke of the role of Robert Morgenthau, a Jew, who brought awareness of the plight of the Armenians to the American government. "It is only through learning and remembering past atrocities through events like these, that we, the Armenians, Jews and other persecuted peoples, are able to work toward their prevention and become a more humane society," said Dr. Cetin. Rabbi Menashe Bovit of the Bellerose Jewish Center spoke passionately about helping persecuted Christians and invited Dr. Cetin and Pastor Tariq Remat of the Pakistani Christian Community to hold up a banner in solidarity of persecuted Christians.
