Hye M'rtsoom
On Friday May 24, eighteen Holy Martyrs ACYOA Juniors, eagerly boarded a bus heading to ACYOA Juniors Hye M’rtsoom Sports Weekend, hosted by St. James Armenian Church in Watertown, Massachusetts. The bus was shared with Juniors from the St. Thomas and St. Gregory chapters. ACYOA members were housed with host families and participated in Co-Ed Volleyball, Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball events. Some of the members also played individual sports including Tavloo, Chess and Ping Pong. On Saturday night the Juniors celebrated at a fun party and on Sunday morning they attended church services.
The Holy Martyrs Boys Basketball team played in the Semi Finals losing to St. Leon’s by just 3 points. Sunday evening all attended the awards banquet and party. Many of the Juniors also participated in two service projects – making sandwiches for the local homeless shelter and making toys for dogs in Armenia out of old t-shirts. After a farewell breakfast on Monday morning, a huge group photo with all of the 220+participants from all 17 participating chapters was taken.
All who attended had an amazing time, made new friends and reunited with old ones. Many thanks to parent chaperones that attended the weekend: Kathy & Chris Deukmedjian, Michelle Andonian and Doug Aprahamian. The next Sport Weekend is October over Columbus Day Weekend, hosted by the Sts. Sahag & Mesrob, PA chapter.
